Von Miller, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, made headlines at the Washington Commanders’ training camp on Sunday by opting to wear the No. 24 jersey this season. Previously, Miller wore No. 58 with the Denver Broncos and No. 40 with both the Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills.
Miller cited three reasons for choosing No. 24: NBA legend Kobe Bryant, his former high school teammate Corey Borner who was paralyzed, and former Denver teammate Champ Bailey. Bailey famously wore No. 24 during his time with the Washington Redskins before being traded to the Broncos in 2004, where he played alongside Miller for two years.
Bailey, a first-ballot Hall of Famer known for his impressive career as a cornerback, visited Ashburn on Sunday to see Miller and his former team. The visit included a photo opportunity shared by Miller on Instagram.
Bailey has been returning to Washington since Dan Snyder sold the team in 2023, attending at least one game each season. He expressed gratitude for being drafted by Washington in 1999 and has shown support for the Commanders.
During his career, Bailey recorded 908 tackles and was selected for the Pro Bowl nine times. He was drafted by the Redskins as the seventh overall pick in the first round of the 1999 NFL Draft.
