The University of North Carolina football team will enter the 2025 season with a roster that includes 70 new players, many of whom joined through the transfer portal. Among these newcomers is linebacker Andrew Simpson, who transferred from Boise State.

Simpson has been named to On3 Sports’ Preseason All-Transfer Portal Team, highlighting his expected impact this season. He also previously earned a spot on the Dick Butkus Award Preseason Watch List. Simpson played an important role for Boise State last season by starting 11 games and recording 45 tackles, three sacks, three forced fumbles, and one interception for 25 yards. His efforts contributed to Boise State’s first appearance in the College Football Playoff.

Penn State linebacker Amare Campbell also joins the All-Transfer squad after playing two seasons at North Carolina and starting in 2024.

While North Carolina has not yet released its official depth chart for the coming season, Simpson is anticipated to start at linebacker. Other transfers expected to contribute at this position include Mikai Gbayor from Nebraska and Khmori House from Washington.

Power Echols led North Carolina’s linebackers during the 2024 season. The upcoming year will provide Simpson with an opportunity to take on a leading role in this unit.
