Current and former UCLA quarterbacks Nico Iamaleava and Joey Aguilar have been named to the preseason watch list for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. The award recognizes the top upperclassman quarterback in college football who is on track to graduate with his class.

Iamaleava, who is currently starting for UCLA, and Aguilar, a former UCLA commit recently named as Tennessee’s starting quarterback, are among 58 players selected nationwide.

Aguilar was officially named Tennessee’s starter after winning a competitive quarterback contest. According to the Volunteers, he has been included on the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list.

Iamaleava has earned recognition by appearing on five preseason award watch lists this season: the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp of the Year Award, Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award, Polynesian Player of the Year, and the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, according to UCLA.

Both quarterbacks are expected to compete with 56 other players for this year’s Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. The selection process will narrow down semifinalists and finalists during the season before announcing a winner at an event at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore in December.
