The Baltimore Ravens’ 2025 roster is generating buzz as potentially the most talented in the team’s history. Former Ravens wide receiver Torrey Smith, however, urges caution. “Let’s not get carried away,” Smith told WJZ Sports Anchor Alex Glaze during a taping of WJZ’s Purple Playbook. He emphasized the Ravens’ historical reputation as a defensive team, mentioning legends like Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

Since football returned to Baltimore 30 years ago, the Ravens have secured two Super Bowl titles in 2000 and 2012. While Lamar Jackson, a two-time league MVP, brings unique talent to the quarterback position, Smith remains hesitant to label this year’s team as the most talented. “These guys (currently) are great players, ain’t no way I’m going to say that (this is the most talented),” he said.

The past championship teams boasted Hall of Famers such as Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Jonathan Ogden, Shannon Sharpe, and Rod Woodson. Other notable players included Ray Rice, Joe Flacco, Marshal Yanda, Terrell Suggs, Jacoby Jones, Jamal Lewis, and Tony Siragusa.

The current roster features 11 All-Pro players. Recently signed cornerback Jaire Alexander joins four other former All-Pros on defense: linebacker Roquan Smith, defensive end Nnamdi Madubuike, cornerback Marlon Humphrey, and safety Kyle Hamilton. On offense are six All-Pros: quarterback Lamar Jackson, running back Derrick Henry, wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, fullback Patrick Ricard, tight end Mark Andrews, and offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley.

“This is an extremely talented group,” Smith noted. However, he identified pass rush execution as a potential weakness despite the talent present.

Smith credits the Ravens for consistently fielding competitive teams since 1996. The franchise has won two Super Bowls and made numerous playoff appearances. In recent seasons they fell short against Kansas City Chiefs in 2023’s AFC Championship Game and Buffalo Bills in 2024’s divisional round.

“Overall this team will always give you a chance to win the Super Bowl,” Smith said confidently about their prospects this season. “It’s always Super Bowl or bust.”
