The 1987 Topps Football card set is a notable release for collectors, even though it doesn’t match the popularity of earlier sets from 1981 or 1982. This set marks the beginning of the “junk wax” era in sports cards, although football cards are not often associated with this term. Despite this, the 1987 collection includes significant rookie cards of Hall of Famers that are valuable additions to any collection.

One standout card from this set is Jerry Rice‘s second-year card, numbered #115. Known as one of the greatest receivers in NFL history, Rice’s impact on the game and his position is well-documented. His rookie card was part of the 1986 set, but his second-year card also holds value among collectors. Depending on its condition, this card can be purchased for between $2 and $7.

Jerry Rice’s career statistics include 1,549 receptions and a total of 208 touchdowns over two decades in the NFL. He is particularly remembered for his performance in Super Bowl XXIII, where he caught 11 passes for a record-setting 215 yards and scored a touchdown.
