Current stars like Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, and Joe Burrow know this challenge well, as they have often been outperformed by Patrick Mahomes. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has claimed victory in three of the last six Super Bowls leading into the 2025 season.
Mahomes is not the first to prevent other quarterbacks from achieving Super Bowl success. Jalen Hurts recently managed to defeat Mahomes and the Chiefs, leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a commanding win in Super Bowl LIX.

Jim Kelly stands out among those who came close but never secured a title. He nearly led the Buffalo Bills to victory over the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXV, but Scott Norwood’s missed field goal attempt ended their hopes. Despite reaching the Super Bowl for three consecutive seasons afterward, that was as close as Kelly and Buffalo got to winning it all. Nonetheless, Kelly’s talent was undeniable; he earned five Pro Bowl selections during his career and was one of the standout quarterbacks of the 1990s.
