Three ex-Washington stars among top NFL players without a Super Bowl win

CBS Sports has compiled a list of the top 30 NFL players who have never won a Super Bowl, including three former Washington players. The list, which includes current quarterbacks Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, highlights notable athletes from the Super Bowl era starting in 1967.

Bruce Smith, a former defensive end for Washington, ranks third on this list. Smith’s most significant opportunity came during Super Bowl XXV when his safety gave the Buffalo Bills an early lead over the New York Giants. However, the Bills ultimately lost that game by one point after Scott Norwood’s field goal attempt missed. Smith holds the NFL record with 200 career sacks and played in four consecutive Super Bowls with the Bills, all resulting in losses.

Smith spent 19 seasons in the NFL, with his final four years at Washington. Despite struggles on the field during his time there, he set the all-time sack record while playing for Washington.

The top five players on CBS Sports’ list include Dan Marino, Barry Sanders, Randy Moss, Bruce Smith, and Anthony Munoz. Washington last appeared in a Super Bowl in 1991 when they defeated Smith’s Bills to claim their third championship.
