The Philadelphia Eagles have finalized their initial 53-man roster ahead of the upcoming NFL season. The team made several moves leading up to Tuesday’s deadline, including acquiring quarterback Sam Howell from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round selection, while also receiving a 2026 sixth-round pick.
Howell joins the roster as additional support behind backup quarterback Tanner McKee, who is currently dealing with an injury. Eagles executive vice president Howie Roseman commented on the acquisition, stating: “In this instance, just felt like Sam had a lot of value for our team right now. That doesn’t say we don’t like our young quarterbacks who were here and we don’t have great hope and promise for those guys.”
One notable omission from the roster is rookie quarterback Kyle McCord, who was selected in the sixth round of this year’s draft. There remains a possibility that McCord could join the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Among those securing spots on the roster was wide receiver Darius Cooper. Cooper joined the Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of Tarleton State and outperformed other contenders, including recent draft pick Ainias Smith.

Even with all of this, Van Buren was so humble that after home games (Including when he was the hero of one of the ‘Super Bowl’ games), he walked home alone (a distance of several miles.) When, in later years, he was confined to a nursing home, he never told anyone there about his career as a star football player. He inspired all of us who knew his ‘story’ to be modest and unassuming.”
