Steve McMichael honored for contributions from college football to NFL Hall of Fame

Friends, family, and fans of Steve McMichael gathered at Balcones Country Club in Austin on Saturday to honor his life and legacy. McMichael played four years at the University of Texas, leaving a significant impact on the city. His college performance earned him a spot in the College Football Hall of Fame.

McMichael spent thirteen seasons with the Chicago Bears, contributing to six Central Division titles and a Super Bowl victory. Known for his toughness, he became a fan favorite and was integral to one of the NFL’s most renowned defenses. In 2024, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He passed away in April after battling ALS.

During his career as a defensive tackle, McMichael recovered 17 fumbles, recorded 95 sacks, and forced 13 fumbles. The New England Patriots drafted him with the 73rd overall pick in the third round of the 1980 NFL Draft.
