The trade that brought Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Jerome Bettis to the Pittsburgh Steelers remains a notable moment in National Football League history. Nearly two decades after the deal, it has been ranked among the top 10 trades by Fox Sports, following renewed attention to major league transactions spurred by this year’s move of Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers.
Fox Sports published its ranking of the “Top 10 Biggest Trades in NFL History” on Friday. The list includes historic deals such as Herschel Walker’s move from the Dallas Cowboys to the Minnesota Vikings in 1989 and Marshall Faulk going from the Indianapolis Colts to the St. Louis Rams in 1999. Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Eric Dickerson’s trade from the Los Angeles Rams to the Indianapolis Colts in 1987 also appears high on the list. The recent trade sending Micah Parsons from Dallas to Green Bay occupies a prominent spot.
Jerome Bettis’s transfer from the Rams to Pittsburgh in 1996 just made it onto Fox Sports’ list at number ten. In response, Bettis reflected on his experience with Pittsburgh and his decision at that pivotal point in his career.
“In 1996, I could’ve gone to Houston. I chose Pittsburgh. Culture, values, and belief in something bigger than me,” Bettis wrote via X. “That choice changed everything.”
Bettis went on to have a decade-long career with Pittsburgh, concluding with a Super Bowl XLV win in Detroit, Michigan.
