Shilo Sanders, a safety for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was ejected from the team’s pre-season game against the Buffalo Bills after throwing a punch at Zach Davidson in the second quarter on Saturday night in Tampa, Florida.
Sanders, who is competing for a roster spot after going undrafted out of Colorado—where he played under his father, Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Deion Sanders—was also flagged earlier in the game for pass interference. He has faced strong competition within Tampa Bay’s training camp as he works to secure a place on the team’s final roster.
Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles addressed the incident following the game, saying: “You can’t throw punches in this league. It’s inexcusable. They’re gonna get you every time (…) You gotta grow from that.”
Sanders had made an impression with an effective debut during the Buccaneers’ pre-season opener. However, being penalized and subsequently ejected in Saturday’s matchup may affect his standing as roster decisions approach.
The play leading to Sanders’ ejection saw him and Davidson engaged physically for several yards before Sanders threw a punch and was immediately sent to the locker room.
It was a challenging day overall for Deion Sanders’ sons in National Football League action. Shedeur Sanders, selected by Cleveland in the fifth round, completed three of six passes for 14 yards and was sacked five times during his own pre-season game.
