On Aug. 22, 2025, a candidate for executive director of the National Football League Players Association called for an immediate grievance to be filed against Jerry Jones. The situation centers on Jones negotiating directly with linebacker Micah Parsons, which reportedly bypassed NFLPA-certified representation.
Matt Schaub, former player and current candidate for the union’s top post, addressed the matter on Twitter. “There (…) should be an immediate grievance filed by the NFLPA for Jerry directly negotiating with Micah Parsons,” Schaub said. “It is a clear violation of the CBA.”
Neither the National Football League nor the National Football League Players Association responded publicly to inquiries about this issue.
According to provisions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, direct negotiations between club officials and players who are not represented by certified agents can carry minor penalties: no penalty for a first offense and a fine of $62,000 (adjusted annually) for further infractions. Schaub argued that even if consequences are limited, confirming any violation would establish accountability and clarify proper procedures for both fans and media.
The case raises questions regarding compliance with league rules during contract discussions and highlights ongoing tensions surrounding player representation rights.
