Texas legends Rodrique Wright and Bobby Mitchell are set to be inducted into the Texas Athletic Hall of Honor. On September 12, ten former student-athletes from the University of Texas will join the Athletics Hall of Honor. Among them are Longhorn football defensive tackle Rodrique Wright (2002-05) and offensive guard Bobby Mitchell (1968-70), both key players in their championship teams during different periods in Longhorns history.

Bobby Mitchell was a two-sport letterman at Texas, excelling in football and track & field. Originally from Wheat Ridge, Colorado, he led Wheat Ridge High School to the 1966 state football title, earning all-state honors at fullback and winning two state championships in shot put. At Texas, he transitioned to offensive guard under Coach Darrell K Royal’s Wishbone offense. He lettered from 1968–70, during which time the Longhorns achieved a record of 30-2-1, secured three Southwest Conference titles, two National Championships, and participated in three consecutive Cotton Bowls. As a starter, he contributed to Texas leading the nation in rushing and scoring in 1969 and 1970. He received first-team All-SWC honors as a senior and second-team honors as a junior. Mitchell also earned a letter in track in 1968. After college, he pursued dentistry, graduating from UT and dental school to become a respected dentist with multiple awards.

Bobby Mitchell amassed 14,078 combined net yards, 91 career touchdowns, and 521 career receptions over his Hall of Fame career as a halfback and wide receiver. The Cleveland Browns selected Bobby Mitchell with the 84th overall pick in the 7th round of the 1958 NFL Draft.
