Jaguar’s rookie player Travis Hunter has sustained an upper-body injury, leading to concerns about his ability to continue in a two-way role. Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Rod Woodson expressed caution regarding Hunter’s workload following the injury, which caused him to miss a preseason game.
Hunter, who was the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and a former Heisman Trophy winner, missed the Jaguars’ preseason game against the New Orleans Saints due to this injury. The team’s coach, Liam Coen, stated that holding Hunter out was a precautionary measure and described the injury as not serious.
Speaking with USA Today, Woodson discussed the demands placed on Hunter and the challenges of playing both wide receiver and cornerback at the professional level. Woodson said, “90 snaps a game on offence and defence for 17 weeks? That’s a tough ask. If anyone can do it, it’s him, but it’s tough on your body.” He also noted that even prominent two-way players such as Deion Sanders and himself eventually focused on one position during their careers, illustrating how difficult it is to remain healthy in both roles over time.
Hunter played both offense and defense in his preseason debut against the Pittsburgh Steelers before his injury became apparent. His absence from subsequent games allowed other young players on the Jaguars’ roster more opportunities during competition.
The situation continues to raise questions about whether any player can manage such a workload across an entire NFL season without risk of further injury or fatigue.
