A bullet was fired into Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid’s office at the team’s practice facility last spring while he was inside, according to a report published by the Kansas City Star on Wednesday.
The Kansas City Star, citing multiple sources, reported that Reid was working alone in his office in early May 2024 when a bullet fired from outside the building broke through glass and left a hole through the window and blinds. The bullet reportedly became lodged in a wall between his bathroom and the entry door to his office. Following the incident, the team installed bulletproof glass.
The same report indicated that two additional bullets hit other parts of the facility, with one striking the third floor and another hitting an outdoor air-conditioning unit. The report also noted that few within the organization were aware of these events.
A spokesperson for the Chiefs declined to comment to The Associated Press on Wednesday night.
The incident occurred shortly after Reid led Kansas City to a repeat Super Bowl championship and their third title in five years. The team won another AFC championship last season but lost to Philadelphia.
Reid has posted a 273-146-1 record across 12 seasons with Kansas City and 14 with Philadelphia. He currently ranks fourth on the National Football League’s all-time wins list behind Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinees Don Shula, George Halas, and Bill Belichick.
