Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was in his office at the team’s practice facility last spring when a bullet was fired into the building, according to a report by The Kansas City Star. The incident occurred in early May 2024, with Reid reportedly working alone at the time.
The Kansas City Star cited multiple sources who stated that a bullet entered through the glass window of Reid’s office, passed through the blinds, and lodged in a wall between his bathroom and entry door. In response to the event, bulletproof glass was installed by the team soon after.
According to the same report, two additional bullets struck other parts of the practice facility. One hit the third floor while another impacted an outdoor air-conditioning unit. Few people within the organization were aware of these incidents.
A spokesperson for the Chiefs declined to comment on Wednesday evening regarding the matter.
The episode came just months after Reid guided Kansas City to back-to-back Super Bowl titles and their third championship in five years. Last season, they won another AFC title but lost to Philadelphia. Reid has accumulated a record of 273-146-1 over 12 seasons with the Chiefs and 14 with the Eagles, ranking fourth on the NFL’s all-time wins list behind Don Shula, George Halas and Bill Belichick.
