A report from the Kansas City Star says a bullet was fired into Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid’s office last spring while he was present. According to multiple sources cited by the newspaper, Reid was working alone in his office in early May 2024 when a bullet fired from outside broke through the glass, made a hole through the window and blinds, and became lodged in a wall between his bathroom and the entry door to his office. The team reportedly installed bulletproof glass shortly after the incident.
The report also states that two additional bullets struck other parts of the facility, with one hitting the third floor and another striking an outdoor air-conditioning unit. Few members of the organization were reportedly aware of these events.
A Chiefs spokesman declined comment to The Associated Press on Wednesday night.
The incident took place just months after Reid led the team to their second consecutive Super Bowl championship and their third title in five years. Kansas City won the AFC again last season but lost to Philadelphia. Reid has recorded 273 wins, 146 losses, and one tie over 12 seasons with Kansas City and 14 seasons with Philadelphia. He currently ranks fourth on the NFL’s all-time wins list behind Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Don Shula, George Halas, and Bill Belichick.
