Kevin Greene, an American professional football player known for his career as a linebacker and defensive end, was born on this day in 1962.
Greene was born in Schenectady, New York, and spent much of his early life moving between military bases due to his father’s military service. He later settled in Granite City, Illinois, where he attended Granite City High School, excelling in football, basketball, and track.
Greene began his NFL career after being drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in 1985. He played for several teams, including the Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Panthers, and San Francisco 49ers, achieving notable success, including 160 career sacks and induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016. He also served as an outside linebackers coach for multiple teams after his playing career.
Greene’s connection to Los Angeles is direct, as he began his professional career with the Rams, where he played from 1985 to 1987. His time with the Rams was a foundational aspect of his football journey, significantly contributing to his development as a renowned pass rusher in the NFL.
Greene grew up in Granite City, Illinois, and played football, basketball, and baseball at Granite City South High School.
Kevin Greene was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
