Bronko Nagurski was born on November 3, 1908, in Rainy River, Ontario. His family moved to International Falls, Minnesota, when he was five. He worked on the farm, in timber, and at his father’s grocery store. He grew strong from labor and daily chores. A football coach noticed him outside of town. He joined the University of Minnesota and played from 1927 to 1929. He played both offense and defense. In 1929, he became an All-American. He helped Minnesota win many games.

He joined the Chicago Bears in 1930. He played fullback and defensive tackle. He helped the team win two NFL championships. He also wrestled professionally and won world titles. He retired in 1943, then returned once more that year to help the Bears. After football, he coached for one year, then returned to International Falls. He ran a service station and lived quietly.

He died in International Falls on January 7, 1990. The town built a museum in his honor. The high school football team is named the Broncos. His life is remembered for strength, effort, and connection to the town. He remains a part of the local and national sports history.

Nagurski grew up in International Falls, Minnesota and played at Bemidji High School.

Bronko Nagurski was enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.
