With Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott not playing in the team’s final preseason game, Joe Milton will be starting against the Atlanta Falcons on Friday at 8 p.m. Eastern time. Dallas acquired Milton and a seventh-round pick from the New England Patriots in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick this offseason.
The preseason matchup between the Cowboys and Falcons will take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The game will be broadcast nationally on NFL Network and Telemundo. Fans can also watch via live stream using services such as DirecTV, fuboTV, Sling, and Hulu + Live TV, with some services offering free trials.
Cowboys star pass rusher Micah Parsons attended his team’s last training camp practice back in Texas following nearly a month in California. Despite no progress reported on Parsons’ contract negotiations, first-year coach Brian Schottenheimer said he expects Parsons to play in the regular season opener at Philadelphia on Sept. 4. “I feel good that Micah’s going to be out there against the Philadelphia Eagles,” Schottenheimer said before Wednesday’s practice.
Parsons has not taken part in practice since training camp began last month, attributing his absence to a back injury. However, speculation continues that contract talks are behind his limited participation. Schottenheimer did not provide specifics regarding any deadlines for Parsons’ return to full activity but expressed confidence: “You’d like it sooner rather than later, but Micah’s going to be prepared (…) Micah knows his body as well as anybody. The best thing of him being here is that he has been able to do some of the walkthroughs. He has been able to be in the meetings. The physical side of it, usually the players are the experts with where their bodies are,” Schottenheimer said.
Parsons is entering the final year of his five-year rookie contract and seeks an extension with annual compensation exceeding $40 million; he is set to earn $24 million this season. His performance ranks him among elite company—he is one of just two players with at least 12 sacks in each of their first four seasons since sacks became an official statistic in 1982; Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Reggie White is the other.
While with the Cowboys during camp in California, Parsons made a trade request via social media expressing frustration over contract discussions with owner Jerry Jones and indicating reluctance about continuing his career with Dallas. Unless traded—a move Jones has said he does not plan—Parsons may face franchise tags after his current deal ends.
Schottenheimer addressed ongoing questions about Parsons by stating: “I think my tone hasn’t changed. My answer hasn’t really changed (…) I’m focused on the field. I’m focused on the guys that are working. The business side is going to take care of itself. I could answer those questions all day long.”
