NFL Hall of Famer Ray Lewis has expressed strong opinions about his former Baltimore Ravens teammate Shannon Sharpe, suggesting that Sharpe has moved away from the values they once shared as players. The comments came during an appearance by Lewis on the “PBD Podcast,” where he discussed how their paths have diverged since their playing days together, notably during the franchise’s Super Bowl-winning season in 2000.
Addressing the changes he perceives in Sharpe’s public persona and media career, Lewis said, “The things that Shannon has said now, has done now, I would have never believed Shannon would say that or do that. Shannon, in my entire career, I’ve never seen him drink ever (…) So I kind of started to watch him. We kind of went our own separate ways because I’m like, ‘Hmm, you’re going to take that route? I can’t do that route.’” He further commented on the motivations behind Sharpe’s current approach: “That route is to become so worldly that you become popular because you’re talking about ignorance.”
Lewis made clear his own priorities, emphasizing a focus on teaching integrity and purpose rather than engaging in gossip or controversy.
Sharpe’s post-playing career has been marked by success in sports media with programs such as “Club Shay Shay” and “Nightcap,” where he interviews celebrities and discusses sports topics. However, Lewis questioned whether this shift aligns with the principles they both held as teammates.
Separately, Sharpe recently resolved a $50 million sexual assault lawsuit filed against him in Clark County, Nevada. The civil suit stemmed from accusations dating back to a relationship beginning in 2023. According to reports, both sides reached a settlement resulting in dismissal of accusations after months of legal developments and delays attributed partly to communication issues between attorneys.
