Creating a “Mount Rushmore” for a successful sports team like the New England Patriots can be challenging. The team has been a model franchise in professional sports since the early 2000s. Tom Brady is often seen as an obvious choice for such a list, with other contenders including Adam Vinatieri, Julian Edelman, Donta Hightower, and Rob Gronkowski.
Bleacher Report recently attempted to compile a Patriots’ Mount Rushmore from 2000 onwards, featuring Brady, Gronkowski, Logan Mankins, and Vince Wilfork. However, some argue that Randy Moss should have been included. Despite his relatively short tenure of three and a half seasons with the Patriots and not winning a championship in 2007, Moss set an NFL record with 23 touchdown catches in one season. His performance was pivotal during the second half of the Patriots’ dynasty.
Moss’s career includes amassing 15,292 receiving yards and scoring 156 touchdowns. He was selected by the Minnesota Vikings as the 21st overall pick in the first round of the 1998 NFL Draft and was named to six Pro Bowls.
A personal Mount Rushmore selection could include Brady, Moss, Gronkowski, and Hightower. Gronkowski redefined the tight end position in the NFL and earned four Super Bowl rings alongside Brady. Hightower’s contributions were crucial to significant victories like Super Bowl LI.
If considering another Mount Rushmore for this era of Patriots history, names like Vinatieri, Edelman, Wilfork, and James White might be included. Yet leaving out Moss from Bleacher Report’s list seems questionable to some observers.
