The Las Vegas Raiders have a long history in the National Football League, with their franchise stretching across Oakland, Los Angeles, and now Las Vegas. While known for aggressive downfield passing favored by former owner Al Davis, the Raiders have also produced strong running backs throughout their years.
Marcus Allen stands out as one of the most accomplished running backs in the team’s history. Allen rushed for 8,545 yards during his time with the Raiders, the highest in franchise history, and scored 79 rushing touchdowns. One of his most memorable moments came in the Super Bowl against Washington when he reversed field for a touchdown run that is still widely remembered. Allen joined the Raiders after a notable college career at the University of Southern California.
Mark van Eeghen also played an important role for the Raiders between 1974 and 1981. As a fullback, he accumulated nearly 6,000 rushing yards and scored 35 touchdowns on the ground. Van Eeghen was recognized not just for his rushing ability but also his blocking skills and contributions to team success.
Bo Jackson was another standout for the Raiders from 1987 to 1990. Despite ranking fifteenth on the team’s all-time rushing list and recording 16 career rushing touchdowns, Jackson made an impact through his athleticism and explosive plays. His time with the franchise was shortened due to injuries, but he is remembered for what he accomplished both in football and baseball.
Current Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty will look to build on this legacy as he begins his tenure with hopes of helping lead the team to future success.
