Puka Nacua is positioned to break new ground in the National Football League as he enters his third season with the Los Angeles Rams. The wide receiver, who made a significant impact as a rookie in 2023, is being discussed as a possible candidate to set the league’s record for most 100-yard receiving games in a single season. No player has ever recorded 12 such games in one year. Currently, Hall of Famers Calvin Johnson and Cooper Kupp share the record at 11 apiece, with Michael Irvin also having reached this milestone.
Nacua had seven 100-yard games during his rookie campaign in 2023, which is tied for second-most among first-year receivers behind Bill Groman’s nine from 1960. Other notable rookies who accomplished seven such games include Harlon Hill, Odell Beckham Jr., and Justin Jefferson.
Statistically, since entering the National Football League, Nacua has matched A.J. Brown for the second-most 100-yard receiving games despite missing six games in the 2024 season. He has totaled twelve such outings, trailing only Amon-Ra St. Brown’s thirteen over that time span.
Further highlighting his productivity, Nacua has achieved a mark of gaining at least 100 receiving yards in approximately forty-three percent of his career games. During his playoff appearances, he managed an outing with 181 yards and another just shy at ninety-seven yards.
Looking ahead to the upcoming season, there are several factors that could help Nacua reach or surpass the existing mark set by previous Hall of Famers like Johnson. Improved health from quarterback Matthew Stafford and continued leadership under head coach Sean McVay could play pivotal roles. Should fellow receiver Davante Adams miss any time due to injury or other reasons, Nacua would likely see even more targets.
Another milestone within reach for Nacua is joining an exclusive group: only three receivers—Justin Jefferson (4,825 yards), Randy Moss (4,163 yards), and Odell Beckham Jr. (4,122 yards)—have accumulated at least four thousand receiving yards through their first three seasons combined. With two seasons completed and a tally of two thousand four hundred seventy-six yards so far despite missed time last year, Nacua would need one thousand five hundred twenty-four more this year to join them.
Nacua is also close to becoming one of only three receivers in history to average ninety or more receiving yards per game across their first three campaigns—a feat currently held by Jefferson and Beckham Jr.
As conversations about records continue ahead of the upcoming season and expectations remain high around Los Angeles’ offense led by Stafford and McVay, all eyes will be on whether Puka Nacua can make further NFL history and possibly etch his name alongside some of its greatest pass-catchers.
