Parsons, who had established himself as a strong pass rusher over four seasons, was traded after contract negotiations failed. The Cowboys received two first-round draft picks and defensive tackle Kenny Clark in exchange.
A comparable situation occurred in 2018 when the Oakland Raiders traded Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears. Like Parsons, Mack was dealt after unsuccessful contract talks and for multiple high-value picks. Mack performed well for Chicago, earning All-Pro honors, but was later traded again without helping the team win a playoff game.
Another major trade involving Dallas happened in 1989. Owner Jerry Jones sent Herschel Walker to Minnesota, gaining eight draft picks that contributed to building a team which won three Super Bowls.
