New England Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson has generated attention in Boston, drawing comparisons to Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Curtis Martin. Columnist Chad Finn from the Boston Globe highlighted the parallels between Henderson and Martin, who built a notable NFL career that led to his enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2012.

Martin retired with 14,101 rushing yards and 90 touchdowns, securing his place among professional football’s leading rushers. Finn described the early signs of promise that can be seen in certain players, saying, “Sometimes you can just tell that a running back has it. We could tell with Martin 30 years ago. And you’d better believe we can tell with Henderson now.” He added that Henderson is regarded as the most exciting rookie at the position for New England since Martin’s debut.

Finn recalled the reserved reaction from former Patriots coach Bill Parcells when discussing rookies and their potential. “Don’t put him in Canton just yet, fellas,” Parcells had said about Martin during his first season—though Martin would later receive enshrinement two decades after that caution.

Despite acknowledging growing enthusiasm around Henderson’s arrival, Finn advised a measured perspective regarding future expectations: “I’m not suggesting his career will even come close to approaching Martin’s (…) but all running backs are an injury risk, of course, and if they do stay healthy, wear and tear catches up to them in the open field around their 30th birthday.” He continued by tempering projections: “Now, I’m not going to put Henderson in Canton just yet, fellas. Of course not. That would be silly. Absurdly premature. Let’s let him get an official NFL carry first, maybe even two, and then see how this promising career builds from there.”

As training camp proceeds and the regular season approaches, anticipation remains high around whether Henderson can follow in the path set by Hall of Famer Martin.
