Pat McAfee, a former NFL punter and current ESPN personality, has been selected as a member of the West Virginia University Sports Hall of Fame’s 2025 Class. McAfee played for the Mountaineers from 2005 to 2008. He will be honored alongside Chelsea Carrier-Eades (track and field), Bill Kirelawich (football), coach Bill Stewart (football), Darrell Whitmore (baseball/football), and Petra Zublasing (rifle).
McAfee holds multiple records at West Virginia University, including most games played with 51, scoring with 384 points, kick scoring also with 384 points, extra points made with 210, third in punting average at 43.7 yards per punt, third in field goals made with 58, and eighth in number of punts with 126. His college career included recognition as a CBSSports.com First Team All-American, Walter Camp Football Foundation Second Team All-American, Associated Press Third Team All-American, Ray Guy Award finalist, and Lou Groza Award semifinalist.
After being selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the seventh round of the NFL Draft in 2009, McAfee spent eight seasons with the team before retiring and joining Barstool Sports as a contributor.
Reacting to his selection on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), McAfee wrote: “I am so thankful for the recognition (…) This is normally something I would try and f***ing hate.. I’d say that it’s bullsh*t and they feel obligated to do this but; this call made my soul feel good. (…) Shed a tear when I got the news from my little brother and son of Coach Stew, Blaine Stewart… (…) It was nice to have an opportunity to think back and reminisce about a great era of my life. (…) I am so thankful for the recognition. (…) This is normally something I would try and fucking…”
The enshrinement will take place on Saturday, Sept. 27 before the game between West Virginia University and Utah.
