With contract talks between Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys stalled, attention is turning to possible trade destinations for the All-Pro linebacker. The Green Bay Packers have made significant gains in betting odds related to acquiring Parsons, moving from distant longshots at +4100 to much closer contenders at +1100, according to FanDuel Canada.
Parsons, who has played only four seasons in the NFL, continues on what many describe as a trajectory toward enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Since sacks became an official statistic in 1982, only Reggie White (70), Derrick Thomas (58), J.J. Watt (57), and DeMarcus Ware (53.5) had more than Parsons’ 52.5 sacks in their first four seasons. Along with White, he is one of two players to record 12 or more sacks in each of his first four years.
At the beginning of training camp, Micah Parsons commented on his performance: “I feel like I’m the best at what I do (…) You can argue whoever but stats, numbers don’t lie. The consistency is there and the availability is there.” He also discussed his view of how other teams handle contracts for star defenders: “When you go around the league and you see these other teams taking care of their best guys, I seen T.J. [Watt] gotten taken care of. Maxx got taken care of. Myles got taken care of, [and] he’s got two years left on his deal (…) You see a lot of people around the league taken care of, and you wish you had that same type of energy.” Speaking about his current status with Dallas amid unresolved negotiations, Parsons said: “If they don’t want me here, they don’t want me here and I’ll go about my business (…) I understand the nature of the business. Like I said, as far as I’m here and under contract, I’ll do what I have to perform at the highest level but, at the end, this is the business.”
Comparing Parsons’ production with Packers pass rusher Rashan Gary highlights why Green Bay might pursue him aggressively; while Gary was also selected No. 12 overall but has never reached double-digit sacks in any season over six years—accumulating 39 total—Parsons has collected 52.5 across just four campaigns.
Despite tying for eighth in team sacks last year (45), Green Bay ranked lower on several measures tied to pass rush effectiveness and did not use high draft picks this offseason to address defensive line issues significantly.
Currently favored by betting markets to remain with Dallas (-370), Parsons nevertheless lists “TBD” as his home on social media after removing all Cowboys references—a move interpreted by some analysts as signaling intent for a change.
Odds will continue to shift as developments emerge regarding both Parsons’ future with Dallas and possible suitors such as Arizona Cardinals (+950) or Los Angeles Chargers (+1100).
The outcome could impact not only defensive strategies across these franchises but potentially tilt championship aspirations if a trade occurs before next season begins.
