The Green Bay Packers are inviting children to participate in a longstanding team tradition during a joint practice with the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 21. The event is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. at Ray Nitschke and Clarke Hinkle Fields, with both teams starting their day earlier at Lambeau Field.
This joint practice will mark the final public practice of the season for the Packers. The team is set to face the Seahawks in a game at 3 p.m. on Aug. 23 at Lambeau Field and will open their regular season against the Detroit Lions at 3:25 p.m. on Sept. 7, also at Lambeau Field.
The tradition involves players riding bicycles, provided by young fans, from their locker rooms to practice fields located east of the stadium, accompanied by each bike’s owner. While this custom began with Packers players, it has been extended in recent years to include visiting teams such as the Ravens and Texans.
Children who want to provide bikes for Packers players are asked to line up in Lot 1 near the Oneida Nation gate on Lambeau Field’s east side. Children wishing to lend bikes to Seahawks players should gather near the Invisalign gate off Valley View Road on the south side of the stadium. Historically, there have been enough bicycles for all Packers players.
Fans may arrive as early as 8 a.m., but organizers request that participants be in place by 9:30 a.m. Bike corrals will be available for children and players to meet before proceeding onto the field.
Packers players will enter Ray Nitschke Field via Armed Forces Drive; Seahawks players will enter Clark Hinkle Field using South Oneida Street’s gate. After warming up separately, both teams are scheduled for a joint session on Ray Nitschke Field.
At practice conclusion, Packers players will reunite with bike owners on Armed Forces Drive while Seahawks athletes will meet children at Lot 1 across from Clarke Hinkle Field.
