The Green Bay Packers have asked local children to offer their bikes for use by Seattle Seahawks players during the joint practice scheduled for Aug. 21. The practice will take place at Ray Nitschke and Clarke Hinkle Fields, beginning at 10:30 a.m., with participants assembling at Lambeau Field before heading to the fields.
This joint session is the last open practice available to the public for this season. The Packers are set to play the Seahawks on Aug. 23 at Lambeau Field, with kickoff at 3 p.m. Their regular season opener is scheduled against the Detroit Lions at 3:25 p.m. on Sept. 7, also at Lambeau Field.
The tradition of players riding children’s bikes from the locker room to practice fields continues this year, a custom that has expanded in recent years to include players from visiting teams as well as other franchises such as the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans.
Children who wish to provide bikes for Packers players should line up in Lot 1 near the Oneida Nation gate on the east side of Lambeau Field. For those interested in lending bikes to Seahawks players, lineup will be near the Invisalign gate at Valley View Road on the stadium’s south side. There is typically an ample supply of bikes for Packers athletes.
Fans may gather starting as early as 8 a.m., but are requested to be situated by 9:30 a.m. Bike corrals will be set up at both locations so that kids can meet with team members before they ride over together.
Practice routines have been set so that Packers enter Ray Nitschke Field off Armed Forces Drive, while Seahawks enter Clarke Hinkle Field via South Oneida Street. Both teams will warm up separately before participating in combined drills on Ray Nitschke Field.
When practice concludes, Packers players will meet bike-riding kids on Armed Forces Drive; Seahawks players will connect with children across from Clarke Hinkle Field by Lot 1 and west of South Oneida Street.
