Several National Football League trades have occurred this week as teams look to solidify their rosters ahead of the start of the season, with the reduction to just one cut down to 53 players before Week 1. The Green Bay Packers are among those teams considering moves, particularly in light of recent roster changes and depth concerns.
Wide receiver Romeo Doubs has been mentioned as a potential trade chip. Given the release of Jaire Alexander earlier in the summer, cornerback remains a position where Green Bay may seek reinforcements. However, Rasheed Walker is also seen as a possible candidate for a trade.
Jon Meerdink wrote for SBNation, “The rest of the depth chart also makes Walker more expendable (…) Than a tackle who’s started 32 games over the past two seasons normally would be. Zach Tom has right tackle locked up for the foreseeable future, and between Morgan and 2025 second round pick Anthony Belton, the Packers have plenty of depth at tackle for this season and beyond. That makes Walker a decent trade candidate, especially since he, too, is a beneficiary of the Proven Performance escalator. The Packers could free up nearly around $3.4 million in space by moving his contract. Walker may still be well-regarded in Green Bay, but thinking about the future puts his present in some doubt.”
Walker has started 32 games over two seasons and allowed three sacks last year. He is considered to have significant upside as other National Football League teams search for both starting options on their offensive lines and reliable depth at tackle.
If Green Bay intends to move forward with Jordan Morgan at left tackle or explore trade options involving Doubs for secondary help, Walker’s position on the team could become less secure despite his experience and performance during recent seasons.
Whether Walker will be traded by Green Bay remains unresolved. Team management continues evaluating its options as roster decisions approach ahead of Week 1.
