The Oregon Ducks football program is preparing for the 2025 season with a roster that has undergone significant changes, particularly among its starting players. The team lost 10 starters on offense and eight on defense following the previous season. Despite these departures, many sports analysts believe Oregon will maintain its competitive status, as evidenced by the Ducks’ No. 7 ranking in both the preseason US LBM Coaches poll and AP Top 25 poll.

Oregon had a record-setting 10 players selected in the 2025 NFL Draft in April, with several more joining teams as undrafted free agents. Attention now shifts to which unproven or lesser-known athletes might fill leadership roles and potentially become key contributors this season.

Among offensive players to watch, wide receiver Dakorien Moore has drawn praise from teammates and coaches after being featured in spring games. Tight end Jamari Johnson enters his first year at Oregon after transferring from Louisville, where an injury shortened his prior season. Running back Makhi Hughes joins after two consecutive 1,000-yard seasons at Tulane and was a Doak Walker Award semifinalist in 2024. Offensive tackle Isaiah World brings experience from Nevada and is projected as a first-round NFL draft pick. Senior wide receiver Malik Benson arrives after playing for Alabama and Florida State.

Defensively, inside linebacker Devon Jackson steps into a larger role after serving primarily as a reserve since joining Oregon. Second-year outside linebacker Elijah Rushing and defensive tackle Aydin Breland are former five-star recruits returning from redshirt seasons. Outside linebacker Ashton Porter is also expected to contribute significantly based on recent feedback from defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi. Cornerback Ify Obidegwu returns to action after missing last season due to injury.

These players represent potential new leaders for the Ducks as they aim to remain contenders for the College Football Playoff during the upcoming season.
