Athletes often find themselves under intense scrutiny due to their high-profile status. While many manage to maintain a clean image, some have faced significant legal issues that overshadowed their sports careers. These cases highlight that fame and wealth do not exempt individuals from the repercussions of poor decisions.

One of the most notable cases involved O.J. Simpson, whose legal troubles became widely publicized. Known as ‘The Juice,’ Simpson was a celebrated athlete, broadcaster, and actor before becoming embroiled in what was termed the trial of the century. He was arrested in connection with the 1991 murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman. Although acquitted in criminal court, a civil court later ordered him to pay $33.5 million in damages in 1997.

Simpson’s legal issues continued when he was arrested again in 2007 for kidnapping and armed robbery in Las Vegas. This time, he was found guilty and sentenced to 33 years in prison, serving nine years before being paroled. Simpson passed away in 2024 at the age of 76.

During his football career, O.J. Simpson achieved significant milestones, including amassing 14,368 combined net yards and 11,236 rushing yards over an 11-season career as a Hall of Fame running back. He is particularly remembered for setting a record with 2,003 rushing yards in a single season in 1973.
