Oregon Ducks running back Noah Whittington has been named to the Paul Hornung Award Preseason Watch List, recognizing his potential as one of college football’s most versatile players. While fans are eager for newcomer Makhi Hughes, it is Whittington who has caught attention with this nomination.
Whittington, a sixth-year veteran, has consistently contributed to Oregon’s offense over the past three seasons. In 2022, he gained nearly 1,000 yards from scrimmage. Despite redshirting in 2023 with limited playtime, he demonstrated efficiency and followed up with 700 scrimmage yards and over 230 kick return yards last year.
The Paul Hornung Award often goes to players who excel in multiple roles on the field. Previous winners include Travis Hunter, DeVonta Smith, and Christian McCaffrey. Although Whittington may not yet match their elite status, his skill set and opportunities could pave the way for him to win if he enhances his performance as a returner and receiver.
Paul Hornung himself was known for his versatility during his Hall of Fame career, highlighted by a record-setting game in 1960 where he scored 33 points.
