The NFL has been a prominent part of American sports since its inception in 1965, with fans celebrating the achievements of players across generations. As 2025 marks a quarter of the way through the 21st century, media outlets are compiling lists of top players from this era. Instead of following the usual All-Decade team format, PFSN analysts Mark Stolte and Jacob Infante have assembled a comprehensive roster featuring the best players since 2000. This roster includes 53 main players and 16 practice squad members, evaluated using metrics like QB+, Offense+, and Defense+.

Devin Hester stands out as a special teams player on this list. Known for his remarkable skills as an NFL return specialist, Hester is celebrated as the only pure return specialist inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He holds records for 20 career return touchdowns and 14 punt returns for touchdowns. Hester’s career highlights include being a four-time Pro Bowler and setting a single-season record with six total return touchdowns in 2007. He also made history by returning the opening kickoff of the Super Bowl for a touchdown.

Hester’s contributions to the Chicago Bears were significant due to his exceptional ball-carrier vision and electrifying play. His ability often left opposing teams regretting their decision to kick towards him. Over his career, he was named an All-Pro three times and was selected to the NFL 100 All-Time Team.

Devin Hester was drafted by the Chicago Bears with the 57th overall pick in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
