Cowboys Legend Michael Irvin has suggested that Dallas owner Jerry Jones pursue Miami Dolphins players as the NFL trade deadline approaches.
Following a recent change in the Miami Dolphins front office, with Champ Kelly taking over as interim General Manager, there is growing speculation that several key players could be available for trade. On his YouTube channel, Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Michael Irvin discussed possible moves Dallas could make to strengthen their defense. “Bradley Chubb, will they be trading him? Will they be trading Jaelan Phillips? They wanna try to enquire about (Jaylen) Waddle,” Irvin said.
Irvin expanded on this by stating, “All this talk about the Dallas Cowboys in the market for a trade. When I heard Bradley Chubb’s only gonna be making a million, I said ‘Uh Oh,’ a new GM, Cowboys will be poking around to see what kind of deal they can get.” He added, “So they’re throwing everything around what’s going on with the Dolphins, and I say, ‘Hmm. That looks like a situation where Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones will be calling to see what they can get.'”
Bradley Chubb currently has a base salary of $1.255 million this season and moving him before Tuesday’s trade deadline would lead to significant financial consequences for Miami in 2026. Jaelan Phillips is also mentioned as a potential target; he is playing under his fifth-year option with $13.25 million due this season. If acquired by Dallas midseason, roughly $5.8 million would remain on his contract.
However, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that trading Jaylen Waddle seems unlikely: “For starters, the Dolphins are expected to ask for (in the words of a source) ‘a 1-plus’ in any potential trade for Waddle, meaning they believe they would have to receive a first-round draft pick plus other compensation.” The report suggests Miami values Waddle highly and would require considerable compensation from any interested teams.
As other clubs express interest in Miami’s defensive players and speculation grows around trade possibilities, it remains uncertain if Dallas or any team will secure one of these players before the deadline.
Decisions from both organizations in the coming days may impact their outlook for the rest of the season as discussions continue across the league.
