ESPN commentator Monica McNutt was referenced during a recent broadcast of the New York Mets game against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. While calling the game, Mets broadcaster Gary Cohen alluded to a previous on-air mistake by McNutt. SNY’s cameras showed a fan wearing a Barry Sanders jersey, leading Cohen to comment, “Yes, that’s a Barry Sanders jersey, everybody. Barry Sanders.”

The comment referred to an incident last month when McNutt confused a Barry Sanders jersey for one of Shedeur Sanders during ESPN’s “First Take.” The error became widely discussed and circulated online.

Cohen has been involved in Mets broadcasts since 1989 and is known for straightforward commentary. He made this remark while covering Monday’s game, which ended with a 10-8 win for the Mets. No further comments regarding ESPN or its talent were made during the broadcast.
