Technology provided a surprising moment for Matt Leinart at home recently. The 2004 Heisman Trophy winner and University of Southern California alumnus experienced an unexpected description of his football career when his son asked their Amazon Alexa device, “Who’s Matt Leinart?” According to Alexa, “From rootsports.com, Matt Leinart was a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback at USC and top 10 NFL draft pick, but his pro career didn’t amount to much.”
Leinart responded with humor after hearing the voice assistant’s summary. “Really? Wow, Alexa’s rough,” he said following a brief pause. His wife, actress Josie Loren, reacted with, “Yikes! Oh well.” Leinart later posted the interaction on Instagram with the caption, “Thanks for the reminder, Alexa,” including a laughing emoji.
Leinart played for the University of Southern California Trojans from 2001 through 2005 under coach Pete Carroll and is recognized as one of college football’s most decorated players. He is a College Football Hall of Fame enshrinee and was named BCS National Champion and Associated Press National Champion twice during his time as quarterback.
After college, Leinart was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2006 and spent four seasons there as backup to Kurt Eugene Warner. His professional career continued with stints at the Houston Texans and Oakland Raiders before joining the Buffalo Bills briefly in 2013.
Currently, Leinart serves as an analyst on Fox Sports’ college football pregame show “Big Noon Kickoff.”
