The Arizona Cardinals are in the final stages of shaping their roster ahead of the 2025 NFL season. With one preseason game left against the Las Vegas Raiders, coaching staff and management are preparing for the cut to a 53-man roster by 4 p.m. ET on Aug. 26.
At quarterback, Kyler Murray remains the franchise starter, with Jacoby Brissett set as backup. Clayton Tune, previously on the roster, is likely headed for the practice squad due to depth needs at other positions.
The running back group—James Conner, Trey Benson, Emari Demercado and DeeJay Dallas—returns from last season after posting several top ten rushing statistics in 2024. Conner leads again while hopes are high for Benson’s increased involvement.
On the offensive line, starters Paris Johnson Jr., Evan Brown, Hjalte Froholdt, Isaiah Adams and Jonah Williams provide stability if healthy. Depth behind veterans such as Kelvin Beachum and Will Hernandez remains uncertain pending final evaluations and possible additions following league-wide cuts.
Tight ends Trey McBride, Tip Reiman and Elijah Higgins are projected to comprise one of the stronger units on the team; McBride had a standout campaign last year establishing himself among top players at his position.
For wide receivers, Marvin Harrison Jr., Michael Wilson, Greg Dortch, Zay Jones, Simi Fehoko and Xavier Weaver make up a familiar group aside from new addition Fehoko who adds special teams value. The Cardinals expect greater output in 2025 led by Harrison Jr., who aims to meet high expectations after an average rookie year.
On defense, Calais Campbell leads a rebuilt defensive line alongside Dalvin Tomlinson and Darius Robinson; Walter Nolen is listed but starts on reserve. The outside linebacker corps features offseason acquisition Josh Sweat as well as promising rookie Jordan Burch. Mack Wilson Sr. anchors an inexperienced inside linebacker unit with Akeem Davis-Gaither providing veteran snaps.
Cornerback depth has been challenged by injuries to Sean Murphy-Bunting and Starling Thomas V but opportunities have opened for Darren Hall and rookie Denzel Burke among others competing for spots. Safety roles remain secure with Budda Baker and Jalen Thompson forming a solid pairing; Dadrion Taylor-Demerson may see more time in three-safety sets while Kitan Crawford faces competition from Joey Blount primarily based on special teams contributions.
Special teams assignments show no surprises: Chad Ryland (kicker), Blake Gillikin (punter) and Aaron Brewer (long snapper) are all expected to return without direct competition after reliable performances last season.
Published analysis projects which players will make or miss the final roster ahead of next week’s official deadline.
