Former Buffalo Bills head coach Marv Levy, a Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee, was the subject of false death rumors circulating on social media just weeks after celebrating his 100th birthday. Levy marked his centennial on August 3 and made a recent appearance with the Buffalo Bills franchise.

Levy led the Bills to four consecutive Super Bowl appearances between 1990 and 1993, establishing himself as one of the league’s most respected coaches. Despite his achievements, misinformation about his health began spreading late Wednesday night through posts on Facebook and other platforms, falsely reporting that he had died.

The reports were rapidly shared, with some users posting tributes before confirming their accuracy. The spread of these rumors came shortly after the passing of another prominent football coach, contributing to their quick dissemination.

Family members and associates in Buffalo promptly refuted the claims and confirmed that Levy is alive. Local media organizations addressed the situation quickly. Country 106.5, a radio station based in Buffalo, stated that “the social media posts were either fabricated or generated using artificial intelligence.” The station also noted “the speed at which false information can be disseminated and the potential for public confusion.”

During his career, Levy earned recognition for strategic innovation and leadership while guiding the Bills to four straight Super Bowl games from 1990 to 1993. He was enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001 in acknowledgment of his impact on professional football.

Levy continues to follow developments within the NFL closely and plans to watch the Bills’ season opener against the Baltimore Ravens on September 7. His ongoing involvement highlights a lasting connection with both team and sport.

The circulation of inaccurate reports underlines challenges posed by misinformation online, even when affecting well-known sports figures. Despite such incidents, Levy remains engaged in football activities and maintains strong ties with fans and fellow professionals.

As he marks his centenary year, Marv Levy continues to inspire within both football circles and broader communities through his achievements with the Buffalo Bills and ongoing engagement in professional football.
