The Kansas City Chiefs are set to begin the 2025 National Football League season with an international matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The game will take place on Friday, Sept. 5, and will be available for live streaming at 8 p.m. ET on YouTube.
Alongside returning players such as quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, former Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu is taking on a new role after his recent retirement from professional football. Four weeks after stepping away from the league, Mathieu has been named a member of the studio crew for this event’s broadcast.
Mathieu played in the National Football League for 12 years after being drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in 2013. He spent time with the Cardinals, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, and New Orleans Saints. While with the Chiefs between 2019 and 2021, he earned a Super Bowl ring (2019), three Pro Bowl selections and two first-team All-Pro honors.
The announcement also included other members of the broadcasting team. Former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr joins Mathieu in the studio for YouTube’s coverage of the game.
YouTube released its full roster of broadcasters for this event:
– Rich Eisen (play-by-play)
– Kurt Warner (color commentary)
– Stacey Dales (sideline reporter)
– Deestroying (sideline creator)
– Terry McAulay (rules analyst)
For studio coverage:
– Kay Adams (Brazil host)
– Cam Newton (Brazil analyst)
– Brandon Marshall (studio moderator)
– Derek Carr (studio analyst)
– Tyrann Mathieu (studio analyst)
– Peter Overzet (fantasy football analyst)
According to organizers, combining experienced broadcasters with newer talent aims to appeal to a broad audience. The participation of Mathieu offers an added draw for Chiefs fans interested in seeing him transition into broadcasting.
