Following a series of successful playoff appearances, Jordan Love has solidified his status in the NFL. However, just five years ago, his selection by the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft was unexpected. At that time, Aaron Rodgers had just won his third MVP award, and Love was relatively unknown.

Now entering his third year as a starter, Love has developed into a confident and poised quarterback. His journey to this point began at Utah State, where he met Rayshad Lewis, son of Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis. It was Rayshad’s encouragement that sparked Love’s drive toward success.

Love recounted an early conversation with Rayshad: “I remember I was in study hall my freshman year… We’re just talking, and he’s like, ‘Yo, would you ever think about leaving early?’ And I said, ‘Leaving early? Bro, I think we’d get in trouble.’ He said, ‘No, bro. I’m talking about the league. Would you ever leave early?'”

At that time, Love couldn’t imagine playing in the NFL. He was focused on earning his degree and getting some playing time at Utah State. But Rayshad’s words stuck with him: “Man, you gotta believe in yourself. Come on, bro. You can be a monster.”

As Love became the starting quarterback in his sophomore year and performed impressively with 3,567 yards and 32 touchdowns, he began to see himself as an NFL prospect. After his junior year at Utah State, he entered the NFL Draft.

Today, Love is recognized as a key player for the Packers as they prepare for the 2025 season. His rise from a lightly recruited college player to leading one of the NFL’s storied franchises is notable.

Ray Lewis had a distinguished career with 17 seasons as a linebacker and memorable performances such as his interception in Super Bowl XXXV for the Baltimore Ravens.
