Washington’s Jonah Coleman has been named to the preseason watch list for the Doak Walker Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top college running back. Coleman, a senior from Stockton, California, ended the 2024 season with 1,053 rushing yards. This achievement makes him the 15th Husky in history to surpass 1,000 rushing yards in a single season. He received third-team All-Big Ten honors from the media and an honorable mention from coaches.

The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will announce ten semifinalists in November. The Doak Walker Award National Selection Committee will also reveal three finalists during that month. A second vote by the committee in December will determine the award recipient. The committee includes past recipients, former NFL All-Pro and college All-America running backs, media members, and selected special representatives.

The winner of the 2025 Doak Walker Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12, 2024. The award is named after SMU’s three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. Each Tuesday this season, The PwC SMU Athletic Forum will announce a Doak Walker National Running Back of the Week. University athletic departments can nominate candidates for the award through October.

Washington’s Greg Lewis was the first recipient of the Doak Walker Award following the 1990 season.

Doak Walker scored 534 career points and accumulated 4,059 rushing and receiving yards during his Hall of Fame career as a halfback and kicker. He is particularly remembered for his performance in the ‘Snow Bowl,’ where he led the Detroit Lions to victory against the Philadelphia Eagles in 1950.
