Happy 76th birthday to John “Diesel” Riggins, a celebrated figure in the NFL and a member of the Hall of Fame. Riggins played as a fullback for the Washington Commanders for nine seasons, during which he carried the ball 1,988 times, covering 7,472 yards and scoring 79 touchdowns. Despite participating in only eight games during the 1982 regular season, he led the NFL with 177 carries and added another 136 during their Super Bowl title run. In subsequent years, he topped the league in rushing touchdowns with 24 in 1983 and 14 in 1984.
Riggins is also remembered for his impressive career totals of 11,352 rushing yards and 104 rushing touchdowns, along with making 250 receptions. One of his most iconic moments was his decisive 43-yard touchdown run that helped secure victory for the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XVII.
