The San Francisco 49ers have faced several injuries among their wide receivers during the summer, with the most recent being Russell Gage’s MCL sprain suffered in practice this week. In addition to these injury concerns, DeMarcus Robinson has been suspended for the first three games of the season, creating further uncertainty about the team’s receiver options as they prepare to play against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 1.
General Manager John Lynch addressed these challenges during an appearance on KNBR, remaining positive about the team’s ability to field a competitive group of receivers by the start of the season. Lynch stated, “There is a way to keep guys healthy, and that’s to do nothing. But we want to get better. So, we evaluate everything, but it’s where we’re at right now. We’ll have enough guys, come Week 1, to put a formidable group out there, and then, we’ll get some guys back throughout the course of the season, and we’ll be okay there.”
The 49ers recently traded for Skyy Moore to help reinforce their receiver depth. Moore joins a roster that includes Ricky Pearsall, Robbie Chosen, Terique Owens, Malik Taylor, Isaiah Hodgins, Malik Knowles, and Junior Bergen as available options while waiting for injured or unavailable players like Gage, Robinson, Jauan Jennings, Brandon Aiyuk, Jacob Cowing, and rookie Jordan Watkins to return later in the season.
The team continues preparations with hopes that additional players will recover and rejoin their teammates over time.
