A recent move by the San Francisco 49ers, involving the acquisition of wide receiver Skyy Moore from the Kansas City Chiefs, has raised speculation about its implications for Jauan Jennings. Many observers suggested the trade was intended to send a message to Jennings, who is currently seeking a new contract with the 49ers and has been absent from practice due to a calf injury.
San Francisco general manager John Lynch addressed these assumptions in an appearance on KNBR on Thursday. Lynch stated, “No messages. We like the player, Skyy. I just talked about that. We love Jauan. We’re getting close to this season [starting] — players gotta practice. But if they’re not healthy enough to do it, they can’t. It’s kind of where we’re at with Jauan right now. But Jauan, we’re getting there, where we’ve got to get out there on that field. And we’ll continue to let that thing unfold.” Lynch continued, “Like I said, Jauan’s a big part of this team (… ) And we’re looking forward to the time when he’s back out there again, and hopefully, that’s soon.”
The trade sent a sixth-round draft pick from San Francisco to Kansas City and also brought back a seventh-round pick along with Moore.
Jennings’ recovery from his calf injury remains an important issue as he approaches what could be his final season under his current contract if no agreement is reached on an extension. With training camp underway and preseason games approaching, how both Jennings’ negotiations and return from injury progress will likely continue to receive attention.
