John Lynch expects healthy group of 49ers receivers ready by season opener

The San Francisco 49ers have faced several injuries among their wide receivers during the summer, with the situation worsening this week when Russell Gage suffered a sprained MCL in practice. In addition to Gage’s injury, DeMarcus Robinson was suspended for the first three games of the season, raising concerns about the team’s depth at wide receiver as they prepare for their opening game against the Seattle Seahawks.

General Manager John Lynch addressed these challenges in a recent appearance on KNBR. He acknowledged the difficulties but maintained confidence in the roster’s ability to field a strong group for Week 1. Lynch said, “There is a way to keep guys healthy, and that’s to do nothing. But we want to get better. So, we evaluate everything, but it’s where we’re at right now. We’ll have enough guys, come Week 1, to put a formidable group out there, and then, we’ll get some guys back throughout the course of the season, and we’ll be okay there.”

The team recently traded for Skyy Moore to add depth at receiver. Moore joins Ricky Pearsall, Robbie Chosen, Terique Owens, Malik Taylor, Isaiah Hodgins, Malik Knowles and Junior Bergen as options while waiting for several players—including Gage, Robinson, Jauan Jennings, Brandon Aiyuk, Jacob Cowing and fourth-round pick Jordan Watkins—to return.

Despite setbacks due to injuries and suspension within the receiving corps during training camp and preseason activities, Lynch expressed his belief that by September 7—the date of their opener—the team will have enough players available to compete effectively against opponents early in the season.
