On Aug. 27, 2025, Gold Bar Whiskey and Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee Joe Montana announced the launch of Double Gold, a new ready-to-drink canned cocktail. This marks the first canned cocktail release for the whiskey brand.

Double Gold is a whiskey mule variation made with Gold Bar Whiskey, ginger, lime and orange juice. The beverage has an alcohol by volume (ABV) content of eight percent. Each can features a QR code that allows consumers to redeem a vintage-style Montana T-shirt at the Gold Bar Distillery located on Treasure Island.

Gold Bar Whiskey previously collaborated with Montana on a whiskey collection themed after his career as quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers.

The announcement comes as part of activities marking the 40th anniversary of the San Francisco 49ers’ 1985 championship win. In addition to Double Gold, Gold Bar is introducing a Retro Edition bourbon finished in wine casks at 85 proof. The bottle includes a detachable “Necker Koozie” sleeve modeled after satin jackets worn by the team during the 1980s.

Montana posed in one of these iconic jackets while holding a Double Gold canned cocktail in its jacket-inspired koozie.

“The craftsmanship poured into Double Gold and Retro Edition exemplifies the dedication and passion from the Gold Bar Whiskey team,” Montana said in a news release. “I look forward to seeing fellow whiskey enthusiasts and football fans enjoy these products as much as I do.”

Double Gold will be available at retailers throughout Northern California as well as online via goldbarwhiskey.com for nationwide shipping. The Retro Edition bourbon will become available in stores and online beginning in September.

Gold Bar Whiskey is recognized as the official whiskey of the San Francisco 49ers. Both new releases are being promoted with marketing inspired by 1980s Bay Area football nostalgia. The distillery currently operates a tasting room on Treasure Island and plans to open another location in Alameda.
