Jim Kelly, a Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinee and former Buffalo Bills quarterback, and his wife Jill have publicly thanked the staff at Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center for caring for their newborn grandson, Beau Hunter Bean. In an Instagram post dated Aug. 19, the couple shared that Beau was treated for over a month in the hospital’s Pediatric Cardiac Care Center following a serious complication during his birth in early July.
The specific nature of Beau’s health complication was not disclosed by the family. Erin Kelly-Bean and her husband Parker Bean, parents to Beau, expressed their appreciation for those who supported them throughout the experience.
A statement co-written by Erin Kelly-Bean highlighted gratitude toward both supporters and medical staff: “To the amazing PCCC Intensive Care Cardiac Team of cardiologists, Intensive care doctors, fellows, attendings, and nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers…Too many to name. And so many we didn’t get pictures with. We will never forget you. God was glorified through your care and excellence. You listened to our countless questions and answered them with patience, grace, and compassion. You cared not only for Beau, but for all of us.”
The family extended thanks to hospital security staff as well: “who made coming in and going out of the hospital a little more bearable.” Additionally, they recognized a worker named Albert: “who sat behind a desk day after day just to push a button and let us through a door…your smile, your questions about how we were doing, and your willingness to help meant more than you will ever know. You have no idea the kind of impact you had on all of us.”
The message concluded with: “With as much gratitude as we can pour out…THANK YOUUU! We thank God for all of you!”
Beau has since returned home after experiencing several challenges during his hospital stay including surgery and time on a ventilator.
