On June 22, Jim Jones appeared on Shannon Sharpe’s Night Cap podcast. During the discussion, the rapper expressed his views on Nas’s influence in hip-hop culture, suggesting he was more influential than Nas. Jones mentioned that while he appreciated Nas since high school, he believed Nas often came second to artists like Jay-Z and DMX. “He never had that type of influence on us, except for his first album,” Jones said.

Shannon Sharpe defended Nas, stating that he was a better lyricist than Jones. In response, Jones argued that his continued presence in the music industry is what counts now, as opposed to Nas stepping away from active rapping.

Sharpe countered by mentioning other prominent artists who are still active: “You know who else is on field? Kendrick, Drake, Weezy. They on the field.” He pointed out that Jones did not challenge these artists.

Jones replied by noting the age difference between himself and those artists but emphasized his competitive spirit: “I’m not mad; it’s about the sportsmanship of the game… If anybody got a problem with that, they can meet me on the field.”
